Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Massachusetts

My credit card company alerted me to a suspicious charge on my card. It was a fraudulent charge made at a local retailer by someone who had apparently stolen my credit card number. The credit card company says I'm not responsible and that they will remove the charge from my account. However, I'm thinking, what about the retailer? Can the retailer come after me? Should I file a police report?

If your card was stolen, yes, you should file a police report. The retailer will resolve the issue with the credit card company, they have an agreement about that. The only way the retailer (and your credit card co.) would come after you is if it turns out that you fraudulently reported the card as lost/stolen in order to get out of paying for the purchases.
