Legal Question

On a life estate deed, if the first name is William and by mistake Will is written and you have it corrected, is the affective date of the life estate the same date you originally made it or is it the date of the corrected mistake?

Legal Answer

It's the date of the original deed. The second deed should be titled "Confirmatory Deed," to indicate that it is simply correcting the original deed.

It is the date of the original deed. The second deed should say " Confirmatory Deed" just to indicate it is a corrective deed.
