There is no specific percentage of child support that must be spent on anything in particular. Child support is usually awarded to the spouse with primary physical custody of the children based on the income and resources of both parents. The purpose of child support is to offset the cost of the care and maintenance of the children. The custodial parent generally has discretion to spend the money as he or she believes appropriate.
