Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

I called a mutual friend who is a domestic violence attorney to ask about reporting laws following an incident in which my husband attacked me. This friend explained the laws to me but told me he doesn't want to know any more about what happened. He just said to call him if I need him to refer me to resources. Is there a legal reason why he would not want to know any of the details of what happened? Or is he just concerned about getting in the middle? Or both?

He does not want to represent a friend and probably does not want to get in the middle as well.

As Attorney Roth stated, he may not want to represent a friend in a professional capacity, or he may feel conflicted if he is friends with both you and your husband, or he has provided legal advice to your husband and is precluded from ever providing you with any information. Perhaps he is retained by your husband already. This is all just speculation, of course.

if he's a friend of your husband's, it would be a conflict of interest for him to get involved.
