Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

I have been living with my sons father since 2009. he owns the house. we have recently split up and I am staying at the house until I find another place to live. he has moved out until I leave. does he have the right to show up whenever he feels like it unannounced. and he is going through all the boxes I have packed for the move. he goes through the refrigerator and cabinets and goes through all my mail.

Regrettably, both of you have legal possession of the premises and he can thus come and go without giving you prior notice. However, he does not have the right to go through your things. Unfortunately, your remedies are limited. If he has damaged your things, you can file lawsuit against him to recover for the value of the things that he has damaged. In addition, if you can prove that he has tampered with your mails, you can file complaint against him with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. Click on the link below for the complaint information:

Yes, because he's the owner of the house, he has a right to access it. However, opening your mail is a federal crime.
