Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

My son lives with woman who is not yet divorced and in a custody battle with her out of state husband. She doesn't have any money so she is being represented by legal aid. They have told her she needs to run a Cori check on my son or they will no longer represent her. Doesn't' legal aid have access to these files? Just want to make sure this is legal. Thank you.

A Cori check is a check for a criminal record. The court will want to make sure your son is not a danger to the child, e.g. has a history of abuse or drugs which resulted in arrest or conviction. Legal aid does not have the resources to pay for the Cori report.

It is legal for them to request it.

They're asking her to run the CORI because funding is the issue. She's getting free representation, so she will at least have to pay for the background check.
