Hi there - I currently have a trademark on a name say "xyz paper" can I put a town or state name in front of this "xyz paper" and still own the rights to it?

Yes, doesn't affect your extant rights. Really it would be viewed as a limited use (that is, adding a geographic identifier) so not useful to try to separately protect it....
