Re: Heat turned off

The landlord is responsible for providing heat. Just like you have to keep your end of the deal and pay rent, the landlord has to keep his or her end by keeping your place in good repair, providing heat, water etc. Talk to your landlord and tell him or her you want theheat on. If he or she refuses, consider witholding your rent until the landlord complies. The landlord will not like this and may try to stop you in various ways so be sure you know your rights first. You have the right to withold your rent if the landlord is not keeping his or her end of the deal but first you need more information than I can give you here. My website has links to a few outstanding sources of information for tenants. Check it at http://www.maslaw.com You may also want to talk with a lawyer who specializes in representing tenants. Good luck. Please e-mail me to et me know what you do and how it works out.
