Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Michigan

I had made three payments of 20$ on a recent medical bill. Then I received notice this was not enough. I stopped paying and am now being sued. I have heard that by accepting the first payments, they in effect entered into an agreement for this amount. Is this true legally, or don't I have a leg to stand on.

Thank You

You have heard incorrectly. This does not legally establish anything other than some credits in your account with them. Negotiating a payment plan can happen or be ordered by the court, but these payments are not binding on anyone.
