Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

Parental rights

My sons father has Failed to pay childsupport since my son was 3 months old... my son is now a yr old, he has also never attempted to see him. He has told me that Friend of the Court will not allow him to terminate his own rights, that I have to file the paper work. I want to know if that is really the case or if he is just trying to pro long this case.

Re: Parental rights

Although you do not yet qualify to terminate his rights, your attorney can advise you of the proper procedure when the time comes. It is not guaranteed that the judge will grant the termination and in fact that might be doubtful if there is not a stepfather adoption.
