Legal Question in Employment Law in Michigan

I gave a two week notice to my current employer, but they were not happy with where I was going and instead decided I should leave right away. They gave me a 'separation agreement and general release' document, but I do not understand why. The document does not contain any provisions for me whatsoever, just states that I may continue my health insurance with Cobra, I can't sue them and I can't disclose any company secrets. I thought these things were only in cases where you are fired or laid off, and there is nothing stating that they will pay me the money they owe me for hours worked or the remaining time I have in vacation hours. What then would cause me to sign this document? Can they actually not pay me for the things I stated? I am in Michigan in case that makes a difference. Thanks!

These agreements only benefit the employer. Hire an attorney to look out for your interests. Otherwise, this is a bad deal for you. Tim Klisz. Kliszlaw.com
