Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Michigan

Buyer overcharge of taxes for home purchase

I was overcharged by Title Agency for prorated county and city taxes due seller of these taxes seller had already payed in advance. Home purchased in March 2008 and just noticed while doing 2008 Federal Taxes. What recourse do I have if any since Title Agency has been contacted and basically said that is what is in the contract that I agreed to pay.

Re: Buyer overcharge of taxes for home purchase

You need a lawyer to review your entire closing package and all related documents to determine who came up with the tax prorations, if there is an error, and who is responsible for it. That will determine who you may have a cause of action against and/or who needs to reimburse you.

Should you decide to retain a lawyer, please contact me to discuss the fees.

Thanks.
