Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Michigan

Lien placed against property(residence)

My wife and I have recently had a lien placed on our home as part of a judgement against her following an inheritance dispute with her siblings. What are the legal ramifications in this matter? How does it affect our credit(jointly/individualy), our ability to refinance,or apply for any type of personal loan, ex. home equity, automobile, etc.? Can they force us to sell our home to satisfy the lien? We refinanced from a 30 year fixed to a 15 year fixed rate mortgage approximately 3 years ago and still owe a substantial amount on this mortgage. We would greatly appreciate any and all advice or information you might be able to offer. Thank you.

Re: Lien placed against property(residence)

Based on the information you have provided, if the lien is against your wife only, and if you and your wife own the property jointly, as tenants by the entireties, it will have no effect on your ability to sell, transfer, or refinance the property.

This communication does not establish an attorney-client relationship, and any information provided is based on limited and unverified facts.
