Legal Question in Traffic Law in Michigan

My son (19) has a restricted drivers license, never been in trouble before, just too many speeding tickets, no DUI or anything like that. He also has a good job working 2nd shift. He was coming home from work and stopped by a friends house, which he should not have done being that he is only suppose to go to and from work. Anyway he got pulled over because the cop decided to run his plate, not many people on the road durning the week at 2:00 am. So my son panicked and took off, and the chase was on. No one got hurt and he turned himself in, due to our friend who is a cop and was involved. He went to jail for 14 hours and got out, no drinking was involved just a stupid mistake on his part. He had only 3 weeks left on his restriction if you can believe that (8months total). My question is: we have been to district court with our lawyer twice and now its bound over to circuit court, no date yet. Our lawyer is trying for the Holmes Youth Act, but I am reading on line that you can't get that with a traffic violation? also, is it possible they can get this down to a misdermeanor instead of a felony, it was fleeing and Eluding 3rd degree and also vilolation of the restriction, is wrote on the ticket.
