Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Minnesota

Obtaining Medical records after bankruptcy

I owe a dentist $600. I filed bankruptcy, which has not yet been completed. I need to go to see a dentist, but I will have to go to a different one. I am wondering if I have a right to have my previous dental records transferred to my new dentist.

Thank you for your help, David

Re: Obtaining Medical records after bankruptcy

First of all, let me suggest that you stick with your dentist. Call the dentist and be apologetic about the bankruptcy, but say you like him or her and would like to continue as a patient. Most dentists I know would be glad to whipe out the previous balance and start fresh.

If that doesn't work, I'm not an expert in the law concerning dental records; but I have never heard of a medical or dental record request being refused after a bankruptcy. The bankruptcy code is full of language about how it's illegal to discriminate against someone because they filed a bankruptcy, and I expect that language would apply to your situation too.
