Legal Question in Criminal Law in Minnesota

To whom it may concern,

I applied for a permit to carry 3 years ago and was denied due to burglary charges on a juvenile record, i'll be 27 in 3 weeks. I was curious if there is a limitation where crimes I committed nearly 10 years ago would no longer keep preventing me from carrying a pistol.

Firearms laws are decidedly complex, intricate, and involve federal & state law (which includes local law, county, city/municipalities). Laws can & do change, evolve, as well. Those with decision making authority for issuing permits (permits to purchase firearms, permits to carry firearms) can and do make discernments and judgments, case by case.

I appreciate very much that your state of mind at at 17 likely varies tremendously from 'you' at age 27 !! (All of us are doing the very best we can, with what we know, with the life skills we possess, at the time that we're making our choices of behavior.)

What I suggest you do pay to confer with a very well experienced attorney prior to trying to you considering to apply for a permit at any time in the future.

You seem to be very intelligent: I trust you understand that the laws aim for safety 'for all' (for the public), so I suggest you pretend your case involved 'some unknown other person', and think through whether or not the way the law is 'makes sense' or not.

You seem to have a very bright future ahead of you!! Best to you !
