Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota

second parent adoption

What states allow a non-married, second parent to legally adopt a child? Does Minnesota? (I already know North Carolina does not.)

Re: second parent adoption

I am confused what you mean when you say "unmarried, second parent."

There are provisions under Minnesota law for step-parent adoptions. There are provisions for adoptions by single persons.

I assume in your case you mean adoption by a single person already having one child. If that is o, Minnesota does not prohibit such adoptions. The individual would have to have a home study performed and meet all requirements necessary to satisfy the court that the child would be entering a stable and safe environment.
