Surely the attorney involved is working for one of the spouses, correct? Is the lawyer working for you? For your spouse? (The attorney is not & cannot be handling this matter for both of you...) Ask your lawyer. We att'ys here provide general legal info' - your own att'y may give you legal advice & counsel. The general guidance to your legal question would be that of course court dates are not to be 'skipped'. I suggest you read the court notice carefully: The wording should be 'loud and clear'.
