Legal Question in Immigration Law in Minnesota

I have an approved I797 till August 2016 (which was approved in January 2013). In December 2013, I updated my name on my Indian passport, SSN, DL etc (got a US court order and proper Indian govt documentation too). At the time, my company attorney's mentioned that I dont need to amend my I797 and I will be granted visa under the new name when I go for visa stamping next time. I was planning for a vacation in June 2015 and was planning to go for visa stamping in India but now my company attorney's are saying that it's a risk to got for visa stamping since the I797 and passport have name discrepancy. I am almost on the verge of cancelling my trip. Can you please advice what needs to be done? Should I amend the I797 with the new name before traveling to India?
