Legal Question in Criminal Law in Mississippi

Period of time you must be indicted by after being arrested

A relative was arrested from his job as a casino dealer, and charged with conspiracy to defraud a casino by the state gaming commission. This happened almost a year ago.

Of course, he lost his job, and was publicly accused in the paper and on the television. In all this time, he has never been indicted of this crime. Is there a time limit for a person to be indicted, and if so, what is it?

Yes. the period of time under which the State has to indict is the statute of limitations for the crime charged. I don't know off hand what the statute of limitations is for the specific charge hovering over your friend's head, but he shouldn't breath easily yet. In other words, don't rock the boat and force the State to move on the charge. Let a sleeping dog lie.
