Legal Question in Criminal Law in Mississippi

Unknown Money Orders

I recieved two money orders via ups today. It is worth a substantial amount of money. There is no doubt they are made out to me and meant for me. The problem is i dont know who they are from or what they are for. They came from Arkansas and I dont know anyone from arkansas. Should I cash them or not?

Re: Unknown Money Orders

Either take them to an Attorney and let him examine them and perhaps deposit them into a Trust Account for collection (and if collected, distribution of the proceeds later) or take them to a bank and tell the bank to send them for collection. There is a strong possibility they are counterfeit or forged or fake. If so you do not want to cash them and spend the money or you will be held liable for doing so. You would be wise to take them to an attorney and explain the circumstances. Take all paperwork, envelopes, etc. with you to the Attorney.

I read the response by the other attorney and I would add that you should also obtain free copies of your credit reports for an indication that somebody has stolen your identity.
