apartment security deposit refund

notified manager i would not renew at end of lease. cleaned apt and turned in key. roommate kept apt and renewed lease in his name only. manager refuses to refund security deposit until roommate moves. he does not plan to move. my contract ended when i gave notification, cleaned and turned in key. how can she legally keep my money? there was no damage to apt.

Normally Co-tenant situation creates joint and several liability, meaning you are NOT off the hook til other tenant is out. I would need to see your written lease to advise conclusively.
