Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Mississippi

residental real estate

I own a house with an ex-boyfriend. I have moved out of the house. We have an offer from someone to purchase our home. Ex-boyfriend is telling me that because his mother has been making the house payments since I left that I am not entitled to any profit from the sell of the house. Is this true? The deed and loan are in my name and his.

Re: residental real estate

You are entitled to your one-half of the equity. His mother's payments were a gift if you didn't sign a contract for her to pay the note. The closing lawyer will cut you a check for your half and give you a break down of the money (an accounting).
