surviving kids of deceased father

My brother passed away 2 months ago,are his 3 children entitled to his social security benifits?He had remarried 8 yrs. ago.He also stopped paying support 2yrs. ago.all 3 are minors.

The following answer was obtained from the Social Securty Admin. FAQs:

"Possibly. It depends on whether she had enough work credits to be insured. If she did, your children may be eligible for benefits. Apply for survivors benefits promptly because benefits are generally retroactive only up to 6 months. You can apply by calling Social Security's toll-free number, telephone number one eight-hundred, seven, seven, two, one, two, one, three. People who are deaf or hard of hearing may call our toll-free TTY number, one eight-hundred, three, two, five, zero, seven, seven, eight, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Monday through Friday."
