school drug searches

if student, susie, saw student, nancy, smoking a joint, susie warned nancy smoking was bad, and nancy warned her not to tell anyone or she would regret it. nancy turned the situation around and accused susie of smoking, the principal took susie aside and said that drugs are bad, then forced her to take a urine test, and with the assistance of the gym teacher they strip searched susie for drugs. no durgs were found and the principal tole her to get dressed and never speak of it again. does susie have any recourse? whas the school w/in their rights?

I would urge you to contact a civil rights attorney. I believe a strip search by a teacher, without parental approval, is a step across the line. Strip searching a student is permissible only in extraordinary cases, and only to prevent imminent harm. There is no likelihood of imminent harm here.

I would advise you to seek out an attorney to represent you on this matter.
