Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Missouri

i rented a house on 4-29, received keys on may 1st. i paid a 750 deposit, and 750 rent for the month of may. when me and my 9 year old got there, trash had been left under the sinks, toilet stopped up and we both were broke out and swelling on our faces from unknown causes. i proceeded to tell them i could not move my son into this mess. and kindly told them that they had tons of people wanting the property, and since i hadnt even moved anything in, lets stop the lease, and return my money. the refused saying they are holding me to the lease. well, today, there is a for rent sign in the front yard, and i had a friend call and they said it is available for move in immedietly! well if you holding me to the lease, and im paid for may, how are you re renting it? i feel they owe me my money, and they are being unethical by taking mine, plus making money off re renting. they also upped the rent for the new tenant up to 800. please help

It sounds like you need to get your money back, as the landlord failed to provide an inhabitable dwelling. Since they've refused your request, you'll probably need to hire counsel to represent you. Did you take pictures? When did you return the keys? Let whichever attorney you hire, know the answers to those questions?

Good luck
