Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Missouri

my boyfriends kid charged charges on a credit card that came in the mail for me. At the time the kid was 15 the kid paid on the charges various ways until they couldnt anymore. The kid was a troubled child then and in juvenile at one point did drugs and drank. the kid is now 21 and has made a big change in their life for the last 3-4 years. the kid had intervened with the mail and phone calls posing as me. The bill has come to our attention now by a debt collector. They said i was responsible for the charges and interest in the amount of $6000. the kid is doing better in their life and going of f to college. I dont have that kind of money and neither does the kid or family member. What do we do and what will happen to the kid?

If the kid was paying you, and you were then paying the credit card company, then you may owe the bill, without being able to go after the kid.(assuming the $6k bill is legitimate) His father may be liable to you. You could try making a police report now, but it might be too late. You could challenge the bill, make monthly payment arrangements, or explore bankruptcy.

Good luck
