Legal Question in Criminal Law in Missouri

Parking using falsified parking permit.

I go to school at a public university. In the parking garage, there is a machine that dispenses temporary parking permits for the day. We decided to try to save some money and print out these passes ourselves. They looked authentic and it worked for a while. But, now we are in trouble. The university police searched the car and found the some old permits as well as the current one. Then they had the car towed. I have been charged with Class A misdemeanor stealing. I was wanting to know if the forging of the parking permits is illegal in and of itself; and also, if that is technically stealing. The cop said he was letting me off easy because I was cooperative. I have already given a written statement.

Re: Parking using falsified parking permit.

I have done a great deal of criminal defense work over the last twenty-five years, and in my opinion, you could have also been charged with a Class C Felony (forgery). If the value of the parking which you allegedly stole is under $750, you may have gotten a very big break indeed. In any event, there is no doubt whatsoever that you should hire the best criminal defense attorney you can afford to represent you on the charge. It is crucial for you not to take a conviction on your criminal record if it can be avoided, and in many cases it can be. If you are located in the Eastern part of the stae and you are not already represented by legal counsel, you may call me for a free telephone consultation at 314-727-2822.
