Legal Question in Criminal Law in Missouri

Last week I was given a blank company check to go pay for a medical bill for a client. I signed for responsibility of the check, went to the dr's office, and once I arrived at the office to pay for the services, I realized that the check had not been filled out or signed by our office manager. I did not think anything of it, I just filled out and signed the check with our office managers name. I have signed budgets, credit cards, ect over the 7 years that I have worked for the company with no occurrance. The check was made out to the exact place it was intended for, for the exact amount that it was intended for, for the exact purpose that it was intended for. I went back to the office, and told the office manager that she had forgotten to fill out and sign the check and that I had filled it out and signed it. She said it was fine and we laughed about it. About an hour later, the dr's office called, the client had refused treatment, and the check was returned to me. I gave it to the office manager and it was voided. On Monday, I was fired for forging a check. I genuinely did not intend to do anything that was wrong. Can I be criminally prosecuted for this?

Under the facts you described, it seems unlikely that youwould be criminally prosecuted. Teh important thing is, wha tdo you and yrou former employer tell your prospective employers about why your employment ended. It may be bad for you to allow a forgery assumptio to go uncleared. The office manager maychange their story. You may want someone to get that person to attest that they talked with you about it, and ntoild youit was okay thqat you tried to correct their error.

Good luck
