Legal Question in Family Law in Missouri

In my divorce, the debts were split between us and the medical bills from my children were given to him. He has not been paying them and they are now coming to me, I am a stay at home mom and have no income. How do I protect myself so they can't come to me asking for money that I don't have?

Unless they agreed in writing, or in the Court's record, your creditor's are not biund by your divirce decree. Make sure that when yiu take your child for medical care, that the providers and facilities know that you will not be paying their bill. Have it written into their medical file snd formally rescind any previous acknowledgment that yoy may have signed. Let the providers and facilities know that before they decide to provide care or meducines. Thst will not undo any previoud bills thst you may owe them. If you get sued by a post divorce medical provider have your ex husband brought in as a third party defendant. In essence yiur sdking the Coury to ude the fecree to say thst yiur ex is liable to you fir snything that you are found to b we liable to the medical providers and facilities. The simplest, but maybe the toughest, solution is to get your ex to pay the bills before you get sued.

Good luck
