Me and my wife went to prison a couple years ago and left our son in temporary custodial rights with my wife's mother and now my wife and I are out of prison but we are separated not divorced do I still have custody rights for me to just go pick up my son

Based upon the few facts you provided, you should be able to pick up your Son. If there is friction, do not do anything that could get you locked up again. Instead, consult directly with a family practice attorney in your area.
