Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Missouri

My motorcycle was stolen and recovered by the police, the suspected thief was arrested and is facing charges from the state (Missouri). The bike is in real bad shape (Missing plastics, suspension blown, spray-paint paint job) so we took the bike to a shop to get the damages estimated. The shop says it will take over $7000 dollars in repairs to get the bike back to pre-stolen conditions! If the thief is found guilty I would like to sue for damages. Am I allowed to do this? What steps do I need to take to do this? Should i hire an attorney to help?

You can dye despite the outcome if his criminal trial. You might consider contacting the prosecutor or Judge to ask thst restitution (paying you fir the damages) be a condition of any olea deal in the criminal case. You should at least consult directly with s civil practice attorney, in your area, very soon. Your options may be less over time.

Good luck
