That is a question to ask an Illinois attorney, if you mean a live conversation. If you mean telephone conversations when you are in Missouri and the attorney is in Illinois, you are the owner of the records of discussing your reason for hiring the attorney, so wriiten notes and recordings are yours. But, if you record discussion as to things other than the subject of the representation means you are like any other person, and thus recording without notice makes you liable to the attorney and any other person harmed by the recording or dissemination. Ask yourself why you would secretly record your attorney. It could cause mistrust, and negate any case for malpractice ocurring after you record.

Good luck
