Legal Question in Juvenile Dependency in Missouri

Okay my name is josh. I live in Missouri with a 40 year old dad and a 36 year old step mom. Last year my dad hit me in my face and I went to police about it and had to go back. He gambled illegally around town by playing poker at residential houses. He loses money and can't pay his bills. They have 2 cars right now that don't have insurance that they drive on. I have a step mom that treats me like crap and she cusses at me and constantly grounds me. I am 16 years old and will be turning 17 in February. I want to move into my grandparents house. What is the quickest way to leave this unfit household and move into my grandparents house?

There are the basic options. First, your mother or grandparents can petition for a change of custody. Second, you can take the steps to get emancipated. Lastly, you can talk to your Dad and Stepmom, and convince them it would be better for each of you, if you live with your grandparents until you reach 18. Although it may be difficult, the last option would be the quickest and least expensive.

Good luck
