Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Missouri

Breaking a Lease

I recently purchase a house, but I still have 7 mos. left on my lease. Is there any provision in Missouri that I can break a lease if I bought a house?

Re: Breaking a Lease

No. Missouri law does not contain any such provision. You need to check your lease and see what provisions it contains regarding early termination of the lease. After you have a thorough understanding of the lease terms, you should approach your landlord about the issue. Often times, these are the types of situations where it is money well spent to spend a couple hundred dollars to have an attorney represent you to avoid paying a couple thousand dollars in rent. If you do not feel comfortable interpreting the lease on your own, then I highly recommend that you contact an experienced attorney to assist you. Best of luck.
