Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Missouri

My daughter leased an apartment in Missouri while in college. She paid $175 for a deposit. We moved her out due to an unsafe environment when her lease was up. I cleaned her place from top to bottom and had a final walk through with head of maintenance. He wrote on the move-out inspection form "All good". I received a statement today saying that they were keeping the deposit plus we owed them an additional $140 for spots on her carpet and painting the walls. I took photos after I cleaned to show what it looked like when we left and there were no spots on the carpet nor scrapes on the wall. I've called the office numerous times but they will not return my calls. What should I do to get the deposit returned?

Thanks,

Cheryl

It sounds like your daughter may need to sue her former landlord. Perhaps hiring an attorney to write a letter to the landlord first might work.

Good luck
