Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Missouri

lost copy of lease

I'm renting to own my home. I lost my copy of the lease. My last payment is supposed to be next month. Without my copy of the lease, what can I do if the landlord won't give me the title?

Re: lost copy of lease

At the very least you must do is to make that last check clearly a last rent-to-own payment. State that on the memo and endoresement sections of the check. Also attach a letter stating tht this is the last paymetn and you expect to recieve title as soon as possible. You might have a warranty or quit claim deed drawn up to give ot the landlord with yoru last payment. These are not fulproof methods. Therefore, before your last payemtn is due, you should hire an attorney to assist with the trtansfer of title.

Good Luck
