if a am a co account holder on my sons checking account, he files bankruptcy, am i liable for any outstanding balance on the account? thanks in advance

You might be in some circumstances. It would be best to not have an overdraft on such an account. You should ask a bankruptcy lawyer for more specific information.

You may have agreed in writing when the account was opened to be jointly liable to the bank for overdrafts or other charges it paid arising from any holder's use of the account.
