Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Nevada

Collection Agency

Have had excellent credit for 35 years. Just received a notice from a collection agency for a bill that was my son's from 10 years ago. He has always lived with his mother and apparantly they gave the collection agency my address and sent me the bill which the debt is over 10 years old. I have had no communication with my son for over 10 years. Can they legally put this on my credit report and screw up my credit because I have no intent to pay it.

Re: Collection Agency

If it is not your debt and you did not agree to pay it, you are not responsible for it. If they put it on your credit report, send a written dispute to all three credit reporting agencies. If the debt is over ten years old, it is both beyond the statute of limitations (4 years) and the time it can be reported on a credit report (7 years).

Re: Collection Agency

Write to the collection agency, certified mail reurn receipt requested, and set forth the information that Ms. Campbell gave you. That just may cut it off before it goes any farther.
