having a new attorney assigned

at a court hearing..can you ask the judge to be able to get a new attorney.?.. as the one I now have. hasn't done a thing for me at all

You can ask but it is up to the Judge.

Thank you for your inquiry.

You always have the right to get a substitution of attorney in your case. If you have retained a private attorney you would need to contact and retain a second attorney and have the two lawyers sign and file a Notice of Substitution of Attorney.

If you are represented by the Public Defender, the assigned attorney is the one you must keep. However, you would have the ability to retain a private attorney should you wish.
