Is it legal to be held in a detention without being read your rights or knowing what your charges are?

If you are arrested it is a requirement that a police officer advise you of your Miranda rights (right to remain silent, get an attorney, etc.). However, if you waived the reading of those rights or gave some evidence that you understand each of those rights, the officers' failure to read them to you out loud is excusable.

A procedural defect in the investigation and arrest stage of a crime can frequently lead to suppression of evidence or even possible dismissal of charges. I would need to speak to you further about the details of your case.

The reading to you of your rights only protects you in Court not in jail.You should go before the Judge within 48 hour to hear what you're charged with.
