establish power of attny/legal heir

With no spouse and no will, how do adult children prove to be legal representatives for matters such as discussing medical bills, insurance claims,etc?

If the parent designates a person their attorney in fact by way of a medical power of attorney, that can enable an adult child to be part of the information loop.

If the parent is not capable of making an appointment, then a child may have to Petition the Court to be appointed the Guardian of said parent. This is done through the probate court.
