Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in New Jersey

police beating statute

I was beaten by a police officer without reason. I did not receive injury, but I have nightmares frequently about the incident. I never thought I could prove that it happened because most of it happened within the police station. I do have a witness that saw the officer ''head but'' me as he put me in the car. It was for unwarranted and very intentional. What is the statue of limitations in bringing a case like this to trial against a police officer / department?
