Legal Question in Technology Law in New Jersey

Domain names and websites

When you purchase a domain name and website from a company like Lycos/Tripod, can anyone access your personal information? Can anyone find out who owns a domain name or website? Is this public knowledge or is this protected under any laws? In other words, if I wanted to find out who the owner of a specific domain name or website was, could I access that information, legally, of course. Thank you for your time.

Re: Domain names and websites

You can check who the registrant of a domain name is by going to a "whois" server. Start with http://www.networksolutions.com/en_US/whois/index.jhtml. Depending on who the registrar for the name at issue is, you may be referred to the whois server for the other registrar.
