Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey

How long do judgements last in NJ

I have judgements from an old business in NJ Do they expire and is it common to settle for lessor amounts to have them removed? All judgements were from business debts from a corporation and were won by default because I was not able to answer the complaints or go to court.

Re: How long do judgements last in NJ

If the creditor properly recorded the judgments, they are generally good for 20 years but can be renewed. It is common for creditors to accept less than the full judgment. If the judgments are only entered against the corporation that has ceased doing business, then there may be no reason to satisfy the judgments. If you do make an arrangement to pay them, make sure that you get a warrant in satisfaction of the judgment. You can call me for a no cost consultation. I have a lot of experience with collections.
