Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

I'm 20 years old, I got arrested last weekend down the shore and given a summons :

2C:33-2A(1)

I would like to know if it is absolutely necessary for me to get a lawyer, and what can a lawyer do for me, I know it is a fine up to $500 and 30 days in jail.

Also, is there any way I can go in without a lawyer and avoid the 30 days in jail and just pay the fine, or anything.

What Happened:

I was in a motel room with friends, filled up a water squirter and the person whose name the room was under didn't want me to empty it inside, I went outside on the balcony and shot it off of it, unknowing that a cop was underneath, and he got sprayed with some of the water. Realizing it was a cop I went back inside the room to put away the squirter and he kicked down the door and arrested me.

The court may force you to get a lawyer. Even if that doesn't happen, why get stuck with a criminal record that could follow you for life? Call me at 732/773/2768 to discuss.
