Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

Shoplifting

I wanted to know if someone shoplifts something from a store and does not get caught while in the act, then several days later the store reviews surveillance videotapes and sees that person took something and left the store without paying for it. Can the person be arrested then or does the person have to be caught at the store in order to be arrested for shoplifting? Thanks.

Re: Shoplifting

Under the circumstances you described, a shoplifitng charge can still be brought against you. It will be more difficult to prove than if you got caught in the act, but it would still be a legitimate charge. Please call me at 908-272-0111 to discuss your case in more detail. There is never any charge for simply discussing a case with me. Thank you.
