Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

My baby father and I got into a dispute. He hit me with keys to my face and called the police after realizing what he did. I went to the hospital and got 6 stitches and he was arrested. He was in lock up for two days. He is 19 years old and I am 17, will be 18 in August. We've been going to court. He tried to apply for a public defendant but he was told that it wasn't necessary if the charges were dropped. We went to court today, and I tried dropping the case, but the judge wont allow it. He is not a citizen of the US. This is first time getting trouble with the law and first to ever lay his hands on me. What will most likely happen to him?

He will likely be found guilty of domestic violence, which he is indeed guilty of. That is appropriate. He will also be ordered to go to anger counselling, which he needs it sounds like, and he will have to pay a fine. He could also be ordered to pay child support to you, which he should.

Please call me, and I will assist you. I understand you are trying to drop the charges. I can help you with all of this, and get the best result for you out of this mess. Since you are 17 years old, it may be smart to get your mother and maybe your father involved in this.

I can explain things in detail. Why don't you come see me. I will meet with you and go over your situation. I will explain what legal issues I see, and what I can do to assist you. I will also give you my best estimate of the cost for attorney's fees.

This will be a free consultation. After we talk, you can decide what you would like to do.

Give me a call, make an appointment to come see me, and let's get moving on this for you. No charge for the telephone call and no charge for the first office visit.

You can not rely upon what I have written as legal advice, because I do not have all of the information that I need to advise you, I only have the very small amount of information that you put into your question.
