Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Child Support Hearing Soon

I have an upcoming Child Support Hearing on the 24th of this month. My son is 15 months and since Nov 2002 his father has provided $80 a week which I explained to him several times was not enough. Since we have received our court order he is reduced his payments to $60 a week. The father hides behind the fact that he is a FT college student. He receives section 8 a rental reimbursement check through them and checks from the College of New Jersey every quarter for not living on campus ranging from $3,000 to $4,000. He splurges on new clothes as well as purchased a truck for himself. He does work PT and sales life insurance policies on the side. I am sure he will not introduce that income at the hearing. Because I receive little assistance my bills are falling behind resulting in bad credit for me with my credit this way I will not be able to find a decent place to live. I do not receive assistance through any state or government agency because I was told my income of $30,000 was too much. I am concerned because I work FT I will get burned in this situation. Do you have any suggestions on what I need to prepare for this hearing? I cannot afford a lawyer and I was told I do not qualify for a free lawyer because of my income

Re: Child Support Hearing Soon

You might ask the court to issue a subpeona for the records that you need to prove what you claim about the father's income.
