Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

foreign woman swindling elder man

My 74 y.o. father met a 32 y.o. married women with 3 children in TONGA(POOR south pacific country) 6 mos ago. He is back in NJ but has sent her approx $8000 (US$) since being back in the states. She keeps telling him she needs more money. Keep in mind the avg income in TONGA is $2500/yr. She also has asked for him to pay for her divorce & tuition for the children. He just sold his mercedes to send her more money & is planning on selling his home(~ 1/2 mil dollars) to help his ''new family''. We think he is being scammed and additionally not in his right frame of mind. Is there ANYTHING we as a family can do? I have 4 brothers & one sister.

Re: foreign woman swindling elder man

You should look into having him declared incompetent. This is a procedure whereby one of his children can be appointed as his guardian if he is unable to care for himself and/or his finances. Two doctors will need to examine him and agree that he is incompetent. The procedure is very intensive. Therefore, it is important to have a lawyer accomplish it for you. Keep in mind that this advice is based purely on the little bit ofinformation that you have given to me. There certainly may be other factors that would change my opinion. Further, no one can rely on advice from an attorney who has not been retained. Since it appears that you have not

retained an attorney, you may want to contact an attorney (either me or someone else) to discuss your matter in more detail. Only then will you be

able to rely on the advice. If you call me, [856-546-8010] mention Law Guru and your first one hour consultation will be free. Good luck! Rob Gleaner
